OTEE presents Cloud Collision

With Cloud Collision, OTEE introduces Open Water through a five-track EP focused on rhythm, atmosphere and the slow construction of energy. The Berlin-based DJ and producer draws from years spent behind the decks and in the studio, shaping a debut that places greater emphasis on gradual tension than on immediate dancefloor impact.
“Cloud Collision”, the opening track, provides a clear introduction to this approach. There are no oversized drops or dramatic changes of direction here. Instead, OTEE relies on repetition, carefully paced development and the balance between percussion and space. The track’s appeal lies in a groove that takes its time to unfold, revealing its qualities through sustained movement.
“Moto” develops these ideas further, working with the connection between rhythmic drive and textural detail. Its sense of momentum comes primarily from the underlying groove, which gives the different elements room to settle into place. The result reflects a production style concerned with the combined effect of sounds rather than the impact of individual gestures.
With “Aktion Reaktion”, the EP introduces a slightly different rhythmic perspective. The title implies a dialogue between opposing forces, a concept that fits the track’s approach to club electronics and its balance between tension and release.
Even as the rhythmic interplay becomes more pronounced, OTEE maintains a measured approach, allowing the track to progress without losing sight of the EP’s overall restraint.
The B-side brings a subtle shift in mood. “Retrograde” explores the notion of movement outside a straightforward trajectory, offering a more reflective take on the record’s established sound. Its development remains rooted in repetition, with small changes gradually reshaping the arrangement rather than disrupting it. “Parabola” then provides a fitting conclusion, evoking a curved path that reflects the EP’s preference for gradual evolution over sudden shifts.
Throughout its five tracks, Cloud Collision maintains a consistent relationship between studio craft and dancefloor utility. The drum-driven, loop-based production provides a common thread, while atmospheric touches add depth to the arrangements. This balance gives the EP enough functionality for club use without limiting its appeal to the dancefloor alone.
For Open Water, the release represents a first statement of intent. Its musical language draws on Berlin’s club culture but avoids relying too heavily on established conventions. OTEE keeps the focus on a handful of fundamental elements, allowing rhythm, space and the progressive build-up of energy to shape the record’s identity.
Rather than aiming for standout moments, Cloud Collision finds its strength in continuity. It is a debut suited to the deeper end of the floor, where the most effective tracks are often those that settle into the room and gradually become indispensable to its movement.
